Nissan launches NFT game – Trustnodes

Nissan, one of the world’s largest car manufacturers, is set to release some car NFTs for a new game called Torque Drift 2.

It is by Grease Monkey Games, an Australia-based multi-platform video game studio and a subsidiary of Animoca Brands, which focuses on motorsports. They say:

“Grease Monkey Games and Nissan will release up to 15 unique Nissan models over the next 12 months, with more variants to be made available in Torque Drift 2.

The first official Nissan NFTs will be 5 variants of the 180SX model including the cult favorite Sil80 and 7 variants of the 370Z model including the 50th anniversary edition.”

The NFTs are scheduled to be released over the next 12 months, and the project claims that these are the first officially licensed Nissan, NISMO, Infiniti and Datsun NFTs that will be available.

The game will run on the Polygon sidechain, which has grown in use as one of the oldest second-layer extensions associated with the ethereum blockchain.

“Nissan’s entry into the web3 space with Torque Drift 2 represents one of the most exciting and significant implementations of blockchain and NFT technology by a major global brand to date,” said Urvit Goel, head of global game business development at Polygon Studios.

Since the advent of NFTs and the metaverse, a number of global brands have announced crypto-related projects.

That includes Mercedes, which launched a series of NFT drops in the spring, and Hyundai, which launched 10,000 NFTs.

While Estée Lauder just on Tuesday launched a Digital Asset Assistant internship, it shows that brands are building full teams beyond senior staff experimenting around.

However, this Nissan NFT will be a replica, the game claims, with the project stating:

“Grease Monkey Games works closely with the Nissan Motor company to ensure that NFTs for vehicles and vehicle parts are truthfully represented.

This partnership will give the game studio full access to the entire Nissan, Datsun and Infiniti line of vehicle models from past to future.

From 3D models, engine variants, rare NISMO parts to vehicle trim options, color choices, horsepower and performance characteristics, special care is taken to ensure pinpoint accuracy.”

NFTs are therefore developing at many angles during what is still a very experimental stage, with a Nissan Motor spokesperson stating that “Torque Drift 2 interactive racing will certainly build on the legacy that Grease Monkey Games has developed from the first titled, Torque Drift 1.”

Arran Potter, founder and CEO of Grease Monkey Games, returned the compliment, saying: “Nissan is synonymous with drifting and motorsport, period.”

Animoca Brands itself only made its entrance last year and has since expanded to include a number of projects, including this new NFT game.
