Philippines Global Blockchain Summit spotlights regulations, NFTs, Web3

The Philippines has been one of the world’s fastest growing blockchain and digital asset hubs in recent years. The upcoming Global Blockchain Summit, to be held later this month in Balanga City, will showcase this soaring adoption, bringing together blockchain thought leaders and enthusiasts to talk about Web3, non-fungible tokens (NFT), the metaverse and more.

The first summit, which will take place on 26-27 October, organized by the Department of Information and Communication Technology. It will be held at the Bataan People’s Center and involve government officials, academia, the private sector and other stakeholders in the blockchain industry.

The Philippines has set the pace in adopting Web3, NFTs and the metaverse. Play-to-earn (P2E) blockchain games have been a big hit, and as a government official recently told CoinGeek, these games have been instrumental in “laymanizing blockchain for the masses.” While Axie Infinity may have dampened many Filipinos’ enthusiasm for P2E gaming, the country is still miles ahead of its neighbors in terms of blockchain adoption.

The upcoming summit intends to capitalize on this enthusiasm. The stellar lineup of speakers includes Felipe Medalla, the Governor of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP); Emilio Aquino, Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission; Martha Sazon, CEO of leading mobile payment platform GCash; and Eprom Galang, CEO of the Coins.PH exchange.

Kenneth Stern, general manager of Binance Philippines, is also among the speakers. Stern grabbed headlines recently when he claimed that Binance was in the process of acquiring a BSP-regulated entity after failing to secure a license itself. This did not go down well with many, and political think tank Infrawatch PH wrote to the central bank to ask that it prevent the acquisition, as it would give Binance a back door into the country.

Among the prominent topics at the event include the state of blockchain regulations in the Philippines, decentralized finance (DeFi), Web3 and its mass adoption in the country, Filipino women in blockchain, and revolutionary art through NFTs and P2E games.

You can book your tickets here and be a part of the Philippines’ rapid ascent to the top of the blockchain world.
