Disney wants a lawyer to handle Blockchain, NFTs, Metaverse
The zeal around non-fungible tokens [NFT] has been racing since 2021. While some continue to embrace this trend, others seem to have moved past it. However, prominent firms have continued to explore the NFT space. Disney NFTs are likely to expand their reach sooner rather than later. The Walt Disney Company revealed that it was looking to get more legal help regarding the same.
According to a recent listing on Disney’s career website, the mass media giant intends to hire an “experienced corporate attorney.” It should be noted that this was not limited to the NFT market alone. The lawyer is expected to oversee “emerging technologies” such as the metaverse. blockchain as well as decentralized finance or DeFi.
Elaborating on the responsibilities that come with the job, the Walt Disney Company went on to write,
“Provide full product lifecycle legal advice and support for global NFT products, working closely with other Disney attorneys and business stakeholders, including Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution and Disney Parks, Experiences and Products. Ensure NFT product compliance with applicable US and international laws and regulations.”
In addition to this, the hired lawyer is expected to do “due diligence for NFT, blockchain, third-party marketplace and cloud provider projects.” Day-to-day legal advice, leading cross-functional Disney meetings and other responsibilities were mentioned in the listing.
Disney is doubling down on its Web3 inclination
It should be noted that Disney has gone all out in exploring Web3 technologies. CEO Bob Chapek revealed in 2021 that the firm was set to dive into the Metaverse by blending physical and digital assets.
Returning to Disney NFT, the firm decided to partner with VeVe, a prominent NFT mobile application. Through this partnership, the firm rolled out a number of NFT collections. In addition, former CEO Robert Iger has previously said about Disney NFTs.
“When you think about all the copyrights and trademarks, [the] characters Disney has. The NFT opportunities, they are extraordinary.”
With this in mind, the firm may look for a lawyer to help deal with potential issues surrounding NFTs and other emerging technologies.
