The brand new LimeWire-branded music and entertainment marketplace for digital collectibles has officially launched, with the likes of Travis Barker, Aitch, Dillon Francis and Fabolous selling exclusive NFT collections on the platform.
“I’ve always been interested in Web3 and NFTs,” says Barker, who was either a very predictable child or has a very short memory. “I’m quite happy to release my first NFT collection and do it on LimeWire. I hope my NFT collection will inspire ambitious artists and fans who want to learn about my creative journey and how I make music. LimeWire has created a platform that makes exciting content like this available to all my fans – even those who are not familiar with Web3 ”.
Because that’s the whole point, you see? LimeWire will make it easy to buy digital collectibles. No more trying to figure out what the hell cryptocurrency is and how to get it, you can only pay for this shit in dollars. Good old US dollars. Just like your grandparents used to.
In fact, you can also pay in a variety of cryptocurrencies if you want. And starting later this year, you will also be able to purchase site-specific cryptocurrency LMWR tokens, which will give you reduced trading fees and access to rewards. But you do not have to do any of that. You can pretend to own as many jpeg files as you want with your regular credit card at once.
“We’re seeing a huge demand in the entertainment industry for platforms that recognize and appreciate artists for their talent and put them in the driver’s seat,” said LimeWire’s co-CEOs Paul and Julian Zehetmayr. “LimeWire presents a new commercial opportunity for artists of all sizes and genres to engage with fans, gain more exposure in a unique way and retain more of their revenue.”
Yes, in fact, LimeWire not only goes for the big names, but also pushes NFTs from new artists who reckon they have enough fans with money they just do not know what to do with turning around.
And there are also NFTs that do not involve artists at all. For example, it’s LimeWire Originals, a collection of 10,000 digital avatars that have the LimeWire logo in one way or another. I do not know why you want one, but people seem to buy them.
Additional collections to be launched later today involving artists, the largest being a selection of AI-generated images of Kanye West from AEON7. More will come in the coming days and weeks.
It was announced in March that the Zehetmayr brothers had acquired the LimeWire brand to enter their NFT market. Some original LimeWire founder Mark Gorton said he was “NOT HAPPY” about it.
