If you are struggling to find NFTs from collections that have not crashed during the NFT bear market, look no further than this list of 5 NFTs that retain value.
In particular, we will focus on some high-value NFTs from some of the greatest artists in the NFT area. To be sure, all these pieces will cost a nice penny. Of course, it’s just talking about their enormous cultural and economic value.
Without further ado, let’s take a look!
NFTs for art retain their value in the NFT bear market
One of the most interesting takeaways from the current bear market is how the art of NFTs has performed compared to PFPs. Without a doubt, the largest NFTs for art have kept the value far better than the largest PFPs. Interestingly, 3 of the 5 NFT creators on this list also appear on the top 10 list of the best-selling NFT artists of all time.
While this is far from a perfect comparison – for one thing, art NFT collections tend to be far rarer than 10K PFP collections – it suggests that art NFTs may well be better investments than PFPs . In fact, unless you plan to calculate the average dollar cost, art NFTs from well-known artists seem to be a very solid way to keep value under the bear market. At least when one thinks strictly in ETH prices.
In this list we will note the floor price for the following NFT collections. In addition, we will use their base price performance through Q2 2022 as a calculation to show how they hold value. For the sake of comparison, here are the current floor prices and percentage changes for some of the most popular NFT PFP collections *.
Bored Ape Yacht Club: Floor price – 90 ETH | % change since 1 April Floor price – -18.6%
CryptoPunks: Floor price – 66.95 ETH | % change since 1 April Floor price – -1.5%
Cool cats: Floor price – 3.98 ETH | % change since 1 April Floor price – -50.2%
Doodles: Floor price – 13 ETH | % change since 1 April Floor price – -46.7%
Azuki: Floor price – 10.99 ETH | % change since 1 April Floor price – -58.7%

1. 1111 by Kevin Abosch
Current floor price: 3.45 ETH | % change since 1 April Floor price: +4.55%
1111 is a collection of 1111 unique NFTs by renowned conceptual artist Kevin Abosch. In fact, the Irish artist is considered one of the most influential crypto artists in the world. Abosch brought his talents to the NFT room and launched the collection on March 20, 2021.
While the collection has seen the occasional dip, it has certainly held strong through this bear market. In fact, like the other NFTs on this list of 5, the floor price actually went up in ETH value over Q2.
2. The Currency by Damien Hirst
Current floor price: 7.4 ETH | % Change since 1 April Floor price: +116.2%
Simply put, Damien Hirst is one of the most famous living artists out there. As a result, his big NFT debut Currency has caught the attention of NFT collectors ever since its launch on July 29, 2021.
This collection of 2190 NFTs has a number of colorful dots on a solid background that will be familiar to fans of Hirst’s traditional paintings. When it comes to retaining value, Hirst’s Currency NFTs are the best performers on this list of 5. During Q2 2022, they have essentially doubled in floor price.
3. Chromie Squiggle by Snowfro
Current floor price: 11 ETH | % change since 1 April Floor price: +59.3%
Apart from being the founder of the beloved Art Blocks platform, Snowfro is also the artist behind the artwork that has come to represent the platform. He is also the first of the three NFT artists here to make the top 10 bestseller list. Therefore, given the recent resurgence in Art Block’s popularity, it comes as no surprise that Snowfros Chromie Squiggle NFTs have performed swimming in recent months.
Launched on November 26, 2020, Chromie Squiggles will undoubtedly go down as one of the most important NFTs in the history of generative art on the blockchain. Currently, 9,675 Chromie Squiggles are minted in total. While Snowfro makes new Squiggles from time to time, they tend to go very fast and certainly not too cheap!
4. Grifters by XCOPY
Current floor price: 13 ETH | % change since 13 April Floor price: +36.8%
XCOPY is one of the most beloved crypto artists today, evidenced by his appearance on both this list and the top 10 best-selling NFT artists.
There are a number of NFT collections by XCOPY that can be included in this list, but here we focus especially on Grifters. This limited edition 666 NFT was launched on December 14, 2021. Grifters has maintained its value incredibly well across the bear market, and maintains XCOPY’s high floor prices across all of their collections.
Interestingly, the only XCOPY NFT that has seen a significant drop in floor prices recently is Max Pain. The historic fall with open editions apparently happened to give collectors a lower entry point to own an XCOPY NFT.
5. Spring / summer collection 2021 by Beeple
Current floor price: 18 ETH | % change since 1 April Floor price: +12.5%
Round off our list of 5 NFTs that retain value through the bear market SPRING / SUMMER collection 2021 by Beeple. It is fair to say that Beeple is the most famous NFT artist today. It was, after all, the sale of his Weekdays: The first 5000 days as many give the credit for bringing NFTs to a regular audience.
In other words, it’s impossible to tell the story of NFTs, let alone NFT art, without including the story of Mike Winkelmann aka Beeple. Needless to say, this makes Beeple’s work very valuable to NFT collectors.
Like XCOPY, Beeple has a number of high-value NFT collections. So in this list we mention the collection of 511 editions that Beeple launched back in April 2021. SPRING / SUMMER consists of smaller sub-collections with Beeple’s trademark, dark comic and absurdist social comments.
It ends our (non-exhaustive) list of 5 NFTs that retain value in the bear market! To be sure, much of this list may not be obtainable for people who are newer to the NFT site. With that said, maybe it stands as good advice even for those who may not be able to afford these works today. Many of these NFT collections were minted for cheap (Chromie Squiggles were first minted for free!).
There may not be something called a safe thing in NFTs. Still, if you follow the NFT art space well enough, who knows? You can only land yourself some distance from the Beeple or XCOPY of the future.
Good luck with art collection!
