The Pokémon Company is hiring for an NFT position
THE Pokémon Company has listed a job for someone with expertise in Web3 and the blockchain.
So far, the company has resisted the opportunity to capitalize on its popular franchise with blockchain games, but it looks like that could change.
A new job listing on the career board for The Pokémon Company has revealed that the company is looking for a new department director with experience in NFTs and blockchain technologies.
The job is at The Pokémon Company International’s office in Bellevue, Washington, in the USA, and the full title for the position is “Corporate Development Principal”.
Whoever ends up in the position will be responsible for advising the company’s management team on the company’s strategy, and managing relations with internal and external companies.
Along with 12 years of experience, applicants are also asked to have “a deep knowledge and understanding of Web 3, including blockchain technologies and NFT, and/or metaverse”.
The listing also asks potential applicants to have connections to networks of investors within the NFT and blockchain sector.
The job listing does not specifically say that The Pokémon Company will develop NFT games.
However, it does suggest that the company is at least interested in exploring the possibilities.
NFTs are a type of digital token stored on a blockchain, which is an online technology that stores a record of transactions across a number of devices.
While the technologies offer safety benefits in some applications, they have been viewed in the gaming community for their impact on the environment and for being seen as doing very little.
A number of game companies have nevertheless launched or attempted to launch NFT games, such as Ubisoft and Square Enix, usually to the anger and displeasure of fans.
The Pokémon Company itself has previously settled with NFTs, suing an Australian NFT game earlier this year over the use of Pokémon characters and creatures.
In filing the case, a lawyer for the company said: “The Pokémon Company and Nintendo had made a conscious decision not to release any Pokémon NFTs”.
Neither The Pokémon Company, nor its parent companies Nintendo, Game Freak and Creatures, have announced any kind of NFT-related project at this stage.
