5 Jobs to Start a Career in Crypto and Blockchain
Get out of the job market and onto the blockchain by getting a crypto job.
Despite the recent downturn in the cryptocurrency market, the space is full of job opportunities. Jobs in this sector grew by 395% in the US between 2020 and 2021.
Experts say most forward-thinking tech companies have taken steps to incorporate blockchain technology into their businesses. To do that, they naturally need to hire people who are well versed in crypto and blockchain.
Whether you already work in this sector or want to switch, here are some of the best job opportunities that the crypto market has to offer:
Cryptanalyst
With how volatile the crypto market can be, it is obvious that companies (be they crypto businesses or businesses that have investments in the market) want an analyst on board to examine how the crypto market is moving and predict prices and trading volume.
To become a cryptoanalyst, you need a bachelor’s degree in finance, business or blockchain technology. Since there is a lack of crypto- and blockchain-related courses in the traditional education system, you can also supplement your education by attending boot camps or using online resources.
The average salary for financial analysts is USD 83,660 a year, and you can also expect a similar salary for those who analyze crypto markets.
Blockchain/Crypto Developers
Being a developer is one of the most sought after talents in the crypto market. They are responsible for securing the blockchain and developing user-friendly applications to facilitate cryptocurrency investment.
To become a crypto developer, you need a degree in computer science or information technology. You must also know programming languages, such as Java, Python and C++, and have experience with cryptography. Practical experience in writing smart contracts or developing decentralized applications (DApps) would be an advantage.
On average, a crypto developer earns USD 120,000 a year.
Crypto accountant
One of the current challenges facing the crypto market is that there is no clear accounting standard for cryptocurrency. So businesses need to hire experienced crypto accountants to manage tasks such as tax registration, compiling financial reports and handling invoicing and invoice payments.
To become a crypto accountant, you must have a degree in finance or accounting. On average, the salary of an accountant in the US is $53,429 a year, and a crypto accountant can expect a similar pay scale.
Technical writer
Many crypto companies today are looking to hire writers in the crypto space today. Companies need writers to prepare white papers for upcoming cryptocurrencies that describe the process of developing crypto projects and marketing plans. Technical writers also create content for the company’s website, answer frequently asked questions (FAQs) and create user guides.
As explained by the job title itself, technical writers must have strong writing skills and knowledge of grammar and punctuation. They also need to know how to use authoring tools (used to create web content), such as Frame Maker and oXygen. On average, a technical writer in the United States earns $74,650 per year.
Cryptojournalists
If you are not a technical person, there is no need to worry. You can enter the crypto space as a journalist. Crypto journalists write about upcoming crypto and non-fungible token (NFT) projects and keep people interested in the space.
To become a cryptojournalist, you must have the same qualifications as a typical journalist, such as a bachelor’s degree in journalism or communications. You can either develop crypto-specific knowledge on the job or take courses or certifications to give yourself an edge over other candidates. A crypto journalist earns an average of $38,870 a year.
For those looking for flexibility, the crypto sector can be a great place to work, given that many crypto companies hire external workers. According to a report by the online recruitment site Indeed, as of June 2021, 44% of jobs listed in the crypto space were remote. Some companies, like Coinbase, even give employees Bitcoin to play with. Earning crypto on top of your salary is an excellent benefit for those looking to diversify their investments.
As of 2021, the crypto market was worth over $3 trillion. As investment in this area continues to grow, it will need more talent. If you see a place for yourself in the crypto sector, you need to do more than just learn about how things work – you need to become a crypto native, like having experience in crypto trading or buying and selling NFTs. Only by actively participating in crypto can you handle what recruiters may ask you when applying for a crypto job.
