$350,000 in cryptocurrency stolen from Chadds Ford resident

Pennsylvania State Police released a list of a number of incidents they responded to over the past two months. One of the more eye-opening incidents involved the theft by deception of $350,000 in cryptocurrency from a 53-year-old resident of Chadds Ford.

State police troopers were called July 5 to a residence on Sharpley Drive in Concord Township, where the victim reported the theft by deception of $350,000 in Bitcoin over eight months in an investment scheme.

Counterfeit

State police responded to the Fresh Market on July 10 for the report of counterfeit $100 bills. A couple passed two of the bills and were seen leaving in a black Nissan Maxima.

Hours earlier, the nearby Whole Foods Market reported that three people entered the store and paid for items with a fake $100 bill. They were seen leaving in a Nissan Sentra.

Theft

The Gap store on Wilmington Pike in Concord Township reported a man who stole 6 pairs of jeans valued at $70 each and walked out of the store on July 19.

Marijuana arrest

Police arrested a Woodlyn man Aug. 5 after they clocked a 2020 Chevrolet Camaro traveling 90 MPH on Interstate 95 North at mile marker 6.4 in Ridley Township in a work zone at 2:24 a.m. Troopers smelled what they called a strong odor of marijuana and saw the drug in plain view. The police arrest the 18-year-old man.

DUI arrest

A Bucks County man was arrested after a minor accident Aug. 5 around 1 a.m. on Interstate 95 South in Tinicum Township. Troopers noticed two cars stopped in a work zone. The police arrested the driver of one vehicle, suspected of driving under the influence.

Identity theft

Two Middletown retirees who live on Walter Drive were victims of identity theft on Aug. 8 after they transferred $400 from their Wells Fargo account to a Zelle account. The Wells Fargo account was closed while the bank investigated the matter.

Theft from vehicle arrest

State troopers arrested a Yeadon man, 22, on July 24 after he was found taking items from a car in the 1000 block of West Baltimore Pike just before 7 a.m. The suspect opened an unlocked vehicle and got into the passenger side. The owner returned to the car and took him there.

State Troopers arrested the same suspect after he was identified hunting near a home in the unit block of Middletown Road.

Catalytic converter theft

An employee of Shanbel Engineering, located at 3 Dickenson Drive; Chadds Ford Township, reported the theft of a catalytic converter on July 2. The $1,000 worth of equipment was taken from a 2006 Toyota.

Theft arrest

Concord Township Wegmans reported the theft of $79 in personal care products on July 17. Store employees were able to identify a 37-year-old Wilmington woman who was arrested.

Gun stolen

On July 22, State Troopers were called to the unit block of Valley View road in Rose Valley for a home that was searched. Two safes containing birth certificates and passports as well as a Glock 19 pistol valued at $700 were taken.

Arrest

State Troopers arrested a Claymont woman, 37, after she assaulted a Riddle Hospital security guard and emergency room nurse on July 22. Troopers were called around 1:25 a.m., identified the woman in the parking lot and attempted to take her into custody. She resisted arrest before being taken into custody, police said.

Weapon theft

State Troopers were called on July 22 for a report of a theft from a home on Twin Pine Way in Thornbury Township. Sometime in the past two months, a safe and a purple Ruger pistol valued at $240 were taken.

Theft

State Troopers investigate a theft from a building on Bonnie Lane in Chester Heights, June 20. The 79-year-old victim reports that 3 items worth just under $5,000 were taken.

PFA arrest

An arrest warrant was issued Aug. 11 for a 19-year-old Allentown man for violating a court-ordered protection-from-abuse order. Troopers were called to the Macintosh Inn in Middletown when the victim, a Chester resident, reported the man was calling and texting them in violation of a court order.

Carrying an illegal firearm

A couple was arrested July 29 on Interstate 95 South in Upper Chichester for illegally carrying a firearm. The male from Trenton and a female from South Carolina were traveling in a 2007 Cadillac STS when they were pulled over just before 1 p.m.

Catalytic converter theft

On July 25, employees at Brandywine Catering in the 1400 block of Baltimore Pike reported that the catalytic converter of a 2007 GMC Savana was taken.

Items found

Troopers were called to the Wawa store in the 1400 block of Wilmington Pike where two wallets and a phone were found in a safe. They had been stored in the safe for several months, police said owners can be recovered by calling PSP at (484) 840-1000.

Seizure of weapons

State Troopers arrested an Annapolis man Aug. 13 following a traffic stop on Route 291 in Tinicum Township. The driver was determined to be under the influence of a controlled substance as well as carrying a concealed firearm without a proper permit.

Car stolen

Troopers were called to the Audi dealership on Wilmington Pike in Chadds Ford Township on Aug. 12 after it was discovered that a 2021 black Audi had been taken off the lot within the past 10 days.

Retail theft

State troopers arrested a Ridley Park woman, 43, after employees at Boscov’s in Granite Run reported she attempted to steal $500 in merchandise on Aug. 3.

Retail theft

State Troopers arrested a New Castle man, 43, after he attempted to steal nearly $300 in merchandise from the Concord Township Wegmans on Aug. 5.

Car stolen

A Concord Township resident had his white 2021 Honda Pilot stolen on August 16. The 39-year-old resident of John Hannum Circle was the day before.

Seizure of weapons

A man from Bear, Del. was arrested on Interstate 95 on July 31 for carrying a concealed weapon. Troopers stopped the 37-year-old man at 1:47 a.m. northbound at mile marker 10.7 in Tinicum Township for a traffic violation. He appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.
